Trading under the name Shooting Star Language Services, I am a professional translator, proofreader and English language (EFL) teacher now based in Liberec, Czech Republic.
Specialising in the translation of ‘creative’ texts that require more than just a literal rendering into English, I enjoy playing with the English language to allow it to express all the nuances of a particular message. As an English teacher I also have a keen eye for detail when it comes to correcting linguistic and stylistic errors, a skill I am able to put to good use both when translating and proofreading.
I’ve always known that I wanted a career in languages. As an undergraduate I took an MA in French-Hispanic Studies, and I later went on to do an MSc in Translation and CAT Tools at Heriot-Watt University. In between time I took a year out to gain my Professional Graduate Certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and teach English in the Czech Republic.
Having recently returned to the Czech Republic after spending the last few years back in Scotland, I'm looking forward to getting involved in the business community here and getting to know some new Liberec-based English learners.
